Why Crinkled Gauze Photographs Better Than Flat Cotton

Flat-woven cotton reflects light evenly and reads as a sheet. Crinkled gauze does not — the puckered surface scatters light at a hundred small angles, so it picks up shadow and gives a photograph texture without you arranging anything. It also holds a fold rather than springing back, which means a tuck stays where you put it while you move around the sculpt. The crinkle is set in the weave, not pressed in, so it survives washing and in fact deepens after the first few.

Choosing Between the Nine Prints

All nine sit on an undyed cream ground, so none of them fight a doll’s skin tone the way a saturated background does. The florals and the leaf print are the quietest and suit close portrait work. Washing and Storage
